Dr. Thaya Kongpakpaisarn

A native of Thailand, pianist Dr. Thaya Kongpakpaisarn is active as a recitalist, chamber musician and educator. Amongst other awards, he is the First Prize winner of the Chapman/Neeson Piano Competition in Tallahassee, Florida, the Thailand Mozart International Piano Competition, the Bangkok Chopin Piano Competition (which he also won the Mazurka Prize and the Nocturne Prize), and the National Beethoven Piano Competition in Bangkok. At age 17, Dr. Thaya gave his debut recital at the Beethovenfest in Bonn, Germany. He has also performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Salaya Modern Ensemble and the Kasetsart University Orchestra and played in numerous masterclasses with renowned artists such as Jerome Lowenthal, Andrzej Jasinski, Rebecca Penneys, Stephen Hough, Boris Berman, Ian Hobson and James Giles.

An experienced collaborative pianist, Dr. Thaya was a Graduate Assistant in Accompanying at the Eastman School of Music from 2013-2015. A proponent of contemporary music, he is one of the founding members of the Florida-based Cosmos New Music, which is dedicated to performing and commissioning diverse works by living composers. Cosmos New Music won the FSU Chamber Music Competition and was invited to give a full recital at Carnegie Hall, New York in 2018. Thaya has also been invited to perform in the Thailand International Composition Festival since 2015.

An avid educator, Dr. Thaya taught and performed at the Florida State University Summer Music Camp 2017 and served on the jury for the Kids Go for B'aroque Competition in Tallahassee. He specializes in the healthy pedagogical method known as the Taubman Approach working with his mentor Robert Durso from the Golandsky Institute. His research on healthy pianism was selected by the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association to be presented at the Connecting Canada Conference 2021.

At age 15, Dr. Thaya enrolled into the Mahidol University Pre-College Program with Young Artist Entrance Scholarship under Dr. Nopanand Chanorathaikul. He subsequently completed his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from the Eastman School of Music under the tutelage of triple-prize Van Cliburn winner Barry Snyder and Doctor of Music from Florida State University with Read Gainsford and Joel Hastings. Currently, Dr. Thaya resides in Dallas where he serves as the associate director and piano faculty of an all-Steinway school, Prime Music Institute in Texas, USA.

ดร. ทยา คงปักไพศาล

ดร. ทยา คงปักไพศาลได้รับรางวัลชนะเลิศจากการหลากหลายการแข่งขัน เช่น Chapman/Neeson Piano Competition ที่รัฐ Florida, The Thailand Mozart International Piano Competition, The Bangkok Chopin Piano Competition ซึ่งเขาได้รับรางวัลพิเศษ Mazurka Prize และ Nocturne Prize, The National Beethoven Piano Competition in Bangkok เมื่ออายุ 17 ปี ดร. ทยาเป็นนักเปียโนคนไทยคนแรกที่ได้รับเชิญไปแสดงคอนเสิร์ต Full Recital ในงาน Beethovenfest เมือง Bonn ประเทศเยอรมัน ในปีต่อๆมาเขาได้ร่วมแสดงกับวง orchestra เช่น The Salaya Modern Ensemble และ Kasetsart University Orchestra ที่จัดขึ้นโดยคุณบัญฑิต อึ้งรังษี วาทยากรที่มีชื่อเสียงคนหนึ่งในประเทศไทย ทยาเคยได้เข้าเรียน Masterclass จากอาจารย์ที่มีชื่อเสียงหลายท่าน อาทิเช่น Jerome Lowenthal (Juilliard School), Andrzej Jasinski (อาจารย์ของนักเปียโนฝีมือเยี่ยม Krystian Zimmerman), Rebecca Penneys (Eastman School of Music), Boris Berman (Yale School of Music), Stephen Hough, Jerzy Sterczynski, Ian Hobson และ James Giles.

นอกจากผลงานแสดงเดี่ยวแล้ว ดร. ทยามีประสบการณ์ทางด้าน Chamber Music มามากกว่า 10 ปี เขาได้เป็น Graduate Assistant ทางด้าน Accompanying ที่ Eastman School of Music ในปี 2556-2558 และยังมีประสบการณ์ทางด้านดนตรีร่วมสมัย (Contemporary Music) โดยเขาเป็นหนึ่งในผู้ก่อตั้งวง Cosmos New Music ในรัฐ Florida ซึ่งแสดงงานที่ได้รับอิทธิพลจากหลากหลายวัฒนธรรมและประเทศ อีกทั้งยังได้ร่วมงานกับนักประพันธ์เพลงที่ยังมีชีวิตอยู่หลายคน ในปี 2561 วง Cosmos New Music ชนะเลิศการแข่งขัน FSU Chamber Music Competition และได้รับเชิญไปแสดงที่ Carnegie Hall รัฐ New York นอกจากนี้ ดร. ทยายังเป็นนักเปียโนรับเชิญในงาน Thailand International Composition Festival ตั้งแต่ปี 2558 อีกด้วย

ดร. ทยา ได้สอนเปียโนมานานเกือบ 10 ปี เขาได้สอนใน Florida State University Summer Music Camp ในปี 2557 Naissance School of Music และ Sonata Music School เขาทำงานวิจัยทางด้าน Healthy Pianism และเทคนิคเพื่อป้องกันการบาดเจ็บของนักเปียโนที่ชื่อว่า Taubman Approach โดยได้ร่วมงานกับผู้เชี่ยวชาญ Robert Durso งานของ ดร. ทยาได้รับเลือกโดย Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association ให้ไปนำเสนอในงาน Connecting Canada Conference ในปี 2564

เมื่ออายุ 15 ปี ดร. ทยาได้รับทุน Young Artist Entrance Scholarship เพื่อเข้าศึกษาใน Pre-College Program ณ วิทยาลัยดุริยางคศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล โดยเรียนกับผศ. ดร. นภนันท์ จันทร์อรทัยกุล จากนั้นทยาได้รับ Bachelor of Music กับ Master of Music ทางด้าน Piano Performance จาก Eastman School of Music ในรัฐ New York ภายใต้การดูแลของ Barry Snyder และได้รับ Doctor of Music จาก Florida State University โดยเรียนกับ Read Gainsford และ Joel Hastings ปัจจุบัน ดร. ทยาเป็น Associate Director และ Piano Faculty อยู่ที่ Prime Music Institute ในรัฐ Texas ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา
